Collection and Delivery

NHS Pharmacy First Scotland

Pharmacy First replaces the old Minor Ailments Service and is available for all patients residing in Scotland. If you have a minor illness please visit or phone us before contacting your GP. No appointment is necessary. Pharmacists, like GPs, can only provide certain medicines and products on the NHS. If you want a specific product you may need to buy it. Our staff can advise you on this.

As experts in medicine, our team can give you advice and free treatment on prescription (if you need it) for minor illnesses such as the following:

Community Compliance Aids

Are you or a family member struggling to remember to take all your medication at the correct times? A compliance aid could help. We can fill a weekly compliance aid and deliver to you free of charge and will even take responsibility for the reordering of the medication.

Contact us to discuss your needs and let us organise this service with your GP.

Unwanted/Unused medicine

We have monthly collections from Ayrshire and Arran healthboard of unwanted and unused medicines which are disposed of safely.

Pharmacy First (Urinary tract infections and impetigo)

Our pharmacist can now give advice and/or treatment for uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women aged between 16 and 65 and impetigo in age 2 years and up as part of this exciting new initiative.

Enquire here or pop in for a chat with our pharmacist.

Medicines: Care and Review (MCR)

We can register you for this service if you have a long-term condition or regular repeat prescriptions. Your GP surgery can do a serial prescription for 24 or 48 weeks that we keep in the pharmacy and dispense at 4 or 8 weekly intervals as decided by the GP. This removes the need to order your repeat prescription from the GP surgery every time you need it. Your prescription will be ready to collect/deliver at the pharmacy when you require it. Please ask a member of staff for more details or enquire here.

Gluten Free Service

The Scottish Gluten-free Food Service is an NHS service that allows you to manage your gluten-free food prescription through your pharmacist instead of through your GP.

Benefits of registering with us for this service include:

Your GP can give you a 'Patient Registration Form' and let you know how many units you are entitled to order per month. We can provide you with the current list of Gluten free products allowed in Ayrshire and Arran and monthly order forms which you just hand in to ourselves or email across at your convenience. We will let you know when your order is ready for collection.

Emergency Hormonal Contraception

We provide a quick and confidential service within our consultation room for ultimate privacy. No appointment necessary, drop-in welcome.

Emergency Supplies

At Alloway Pharmacy, we are keen to keep patients stable on their medication. Our pharmacist can supply you with your medication under certain circumstances if you have run out or your prescription has not made it from the surgery in time. It is very rare we will not be able to help you out so please call in to see us and our pharmacist can discuss how to help you.

We can provide antimalarial medication without you needing to visit your doctor to get a private prescription. You will need to complete a medical questionnaire in the pharmacy. This will be assessed by our pharmacist who will determine which treatment (if any) is suitable. Treatment will require payment as this service is not funded by the NHS.
